Tavira

"The church dates from the end of the 13th century and it's devoted to Santiago Maior. It was donated by D. Afonso III to the Bishop of Silves in 1270, having previously belonged to the Military Order of Santiago de Espada.⁠

Vila Franca do Campo, São Miguel, Azores

Leiria

The early history of Leiria is dark hole. But even so, the area has the highest density of archaeological finds of the country, attributable to the Lower Paleolithic. Currently they are inventoried more than 70 archaeological sites in the region. Its famous city for many things ,one the most famous one is the Pinhal de Leiria (Large Pine Forest), Planted by king Afonso III and extended by D. Dinis near the Atlantic coast were the wood would be used later to build the ships that served the Portuguese Discoveries in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

Amarante

Amarante sits on a hill overlooking the bucolic river Tamega. In the distance stands the gourgeous mountain/serra do Marão.
“Some historians have attributed the foundation of this transitional city linking the provinces of Minho and Trás-os-Montes to a Roman centurion by the name of Amarantus. In the thirteenth century, St Gonçalo, a Benedictine monk and popular saint, arrived in this area, where he eventually settled after completing a pilgrimage to Italy and Jerusalem, later becoming the city´s patron saint. He is accredited with the building of a sturdy bridge over the Tâmega on the same site as the current one.

Nazaré

Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova

The castle of Algoso is one of the most important medieval fortifications in the eastern norte, related with the battles of Leonese succession, the tentative policies of the independent Portuguese monarch. Sometime during the 12th century, D. Mendo Rufino, master of the lands of "Ulgoso" by donation of D. Afonso Henriques, ordered the construction of a fortress, in order to watch and guard the frontier with the Kingdom of León.

Comporta, Setúbal

Serra da Estrela, Seia

it seems a natural phenomenon., but it´s not. The Covão dos Conchos Lagoon is, in fact, a dam. Through a tunnel built in the 50's of the twentieth century, the dam diverts water from Ribeira das Naves to Lagoa Comprida. Made of concrete and granite, the tunnel serves to keep constant the water level in the Ribeira das Naves.

Moliceiro is the name given to the boats that circulate in the Ria de Aveiro, lagoon region of Rio Vouga. This vessel was originally used for harvesting the moliço, but currently more used for tourist purposes. Moliço is the name given to aquatic plants that are harvested for use in agriculture. This word comes from the Latin mollis, which expresses soft quality. The designation of moliço is generally used for vascular plants that grow submerged in salt water, which in English are called seagrass.

Almourol

The Castle of Almourol Vila Nova da Barquinha,
It is believed that the castle was constructed on the site of a primitive Lusitanian castro that was later conquered by the Romans during the 1st century B.C.E.It was later remodelled by successive invading forces, including the Alans, Visigoths and Moors, although it is unclear when the actual castle was established.In excavations carried out in the interior and exterior enclosures, various vestiges of Roman occupation were discovered, that included coins, millennium markers and Roman foundations, while medieval remnants such as medallions and two marble columns were also discovered in the castle's vicinity.

São Pedro de Moel

In 1463 Don Afonso V gave São Pedro de Moel to the Count of Vila Real. The family had a palace in Leiria and several houses in São Pedro de Moel. They lived on this beach until 1641, when the last Marquis of Vila Real and Duke of Caminha were executed. The widowed Duquesa de Caminha mourned the death of her husband on a huge rock overlooking the beach that is named after him - Penedo da Saudade, at the top of which there is a lighthouse with the same name.

Monsaraz

This extremely beautiful mediaeval town has succeeded in preserving its own distinctive characteristics over the centuries. Walking through the streets of Monsaraz is like going back in time, for it is a truly unique place where one can find all the peace and tranquillity that have been forgotten by the modern era.
The most immediate visual impression in the town is that of the whitewash and schist of its houses and buildings. Manteigas

Surrounded by magnificent landscapes, the village of Manteigas is located in the heart of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, the highest in mainland Portugal, so it is also known as the Heart of Serra da Estrela.
Zêzere Glacier Valley, which with its perfect 'U' shape is one of the best examples of glacier landscape modeling. The area is also often covered with snow in winter and eventually in early spring.
